The story of how Lord Ganesha was born has different versions in the Hindu scripture, although the most commonly referred one till date is where Goddess Parvati created him.

Once, while Mata Parvati wanted to take a bath, there were no attendants around to guard her chambers.

At that time, she envied Lord Shiva for having Nandi by him and craved for an obedient attendant.

She created an idol (Murti) of a little boy out of the dirt from her body and the cleansing ingredients like sandalwood and turmeric paste.

She then infused life into the idol and it transformed into a radiant child. Since he was born from Parvati he is named Gaurisuta.

The ancient scriptures describe Bal Ganesha as an adorable child, who had nearly all good-looking features.

According to the scriptures, the day Lord Ganesha was born was the Magha Shukla Chaturthi that is the fourth day of waxing moon in the Hindu month called Magha (January/February).

This day is observed as a grand festival called Maghi Ganesh Jayanti or Maghi Ganapati, celebrated especially in western parts of India.
